What Is Smart Connect?
Smart Connect is OrbVPN's intelligent auto-connect engine — the technology behind the Auto protocol option. How Server Selection Works
Alongside choosing the protocol and transport, Smart Connect evaluates three key factors when selecting a server for you. Each factor is weighted and combined into a composite score to identify the single best server at the moment you tap connect.
Latency
Measures the round-trip time between your device and each server. Lower latency means faster page loads, smoother video calls, and more responsive browsing.
Server Load
Monitors the current number of active users and bandwidth utilization on each server. Servers with lower load have more resources available for your connection.
Geographic Distance
Calculates the physical distance between your location and each server. Closer servers generally provide faster and more stable connections.
The Selection Process
Network Scan
When you initiate a Smart Connect, OrbVPN performs a rapid ping test to all available servers in the network, measuring real-time latency from your current location.
Load Assessment
Simultaneously, the app queries current server load data, including active connections and bandwidth utilization, to identify underutilized servers.
Distance Calculation
Your approximate geographic location is used to factor in physical distance, giving preference to nearby servers that minimize the number of network hops.
Score Computation
